After soooooo long working on this thing, I finally have it up and running. Feels great to have a tank again!! I've had my stock and rock in a feed trough for about a month while finishing this build though it's not completely done yet... I still need to make the doors.

Disclaimer: this isn't my finished aquascaping. I just moved things over. Still a work in progress.

I think in another thread he mentioned something about that cone bottom tank as being like a settling chamber. The crap settles out in the bottom where it can be drained away. Seemed like a very good idea.

That's correct. I'm using it as a settling tank. Others have used them with great success and I've always wanted to add one.

This shot is from inside the cone. I was off just a little bit and wasn't able to get what's down in the drain pipe, but this one shows what's on the side walls of it.

This shot shows what's hanging out down in the bottom of the pipe, like a log in the toilet. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif It's nice to see a whole tank's supply of detritus in one easy to clean spot.

I like that cone idea. You basically run your overflows into the cone, the crap settles in the bottom where you can drain it out, and the water flows out the top of the cone through a uniseal and back to the sump? So simple yet effective. I might have to steal the idea for my sump rebuild.
