Went into Home Depot yesterday and saw a new product )new to me anyway) that I thought was pretty intriguing. It's called the "bucket head" and is a HD branded shop vac that is meant to sit on their 5g buckets and function as a smaller wet/dry vac. It was only $20 and quite compact, so I decided to give it a try. I needed something to clean my sump of detritus accumulation and up until now I had been using annoying powerheads with hoses attached. You know how infomercials show bumbling idiots trying to do a  task and failing without a new miracle product? That is literally how I felt after using this thing. I was able to clean my sump up in a matter of five minutes and refill it with premixed saltwater. Never has this thing been so clean! The vac also has an autoshutoff for when the water level gets too high in the bucket. I have not tried vacuuming anything dry (I will probably just save this for tank jobs only, at the price I may buy another for around the house/garage), but I imagine it would function just as well dry.
Just thought I would share this bit of info with the rest of you here as it made a huge difference on my cleanup time and most of all efficiency!

    Thanks for sharing Bela,

I am going to get one today for the same reason! How long of a nozzle does it have?

From end to end I would say it is 4'. If you meant diameter, I am not sure, but it looks pretty standard and I believe one could just buy an extension to make it longer if need be.

No problem. I think this is literally the best investment I have made for the tank. I just removed the filter all together and plan on keeping it that way since this unit will be reserved for the tank /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/hybrid//emoticons/smile.gif

Be careful if there is any exposed metal in the actual shop vac. I destroyed one without knowing. I cleaned out a tank once with one and didn't think anything of it. Went to use it a few weeks later and it was all seized up.

Interesting. I don't see any metal... seems all plastic or plastic coated. I wouldn't imagine much issue though. It is made for wet pickups. I ended up dumping a couple gallons of fresh ro water into the area of the sump I was cleaning too, and sucked that all out after some light scrubbing. Perhaps that helps with the washing away any salts.

Ya I would just give it a quick rinse with RO or regular water. This should keep the life expectancy up.
