I am planning to convert an old 15 gallon tank (shown below) into a sump. It has the same footprint as a 10 gallon, but is a taller. After considering my options, this is the probably the biggest I can go and still fit it into my stand. I like the extra height attribute as it will reduce the risk of an overflow when power goes out and may help with water changes. I know space will be limited, and off the top of my head, I am hoping to find a way to fit in a filter sock, center chamber (fuge/skimmer/or whatever), Turbo's Aquatics L2 algae scrubber (above it), and return pump chamber (preferred, but would consider external return pump).

I am looking for ideas and inspiration, so if you have a ~10 gallon sump, I would like to invite you to post pictures of it. Let me know what you like about yours and what you would change if you could. If you don't have one, but have seen one on the Internet that is worth sharing, then please do. Thanks for sharing!

All that sounds like it'd be a tough fit! I think you could get away without a fuge if you're going with an L2, but I'd still run a skimmer. I'd maybe use some rock rubble for more bacterial surface area. You more than likely don't need a whole lot of room if you want to get one of those clip on or hang on filter sock holders. Then you'd basically need a chamber for your skimmer, a bubble trap, and then a chamber for the return pump. Plus for a 50 g tank, you don't need a GIGANTIC return pump, just something that'll accommodate for the head and move water as fast as your overflow will allow!

I like the simplicity of this small sump:

P.S. I'm not sure where to find the GIRS forum rules, so please advise if shouldn't post links...I don't want to violate policy. Thanks.

Wish I had some spare gold ingots to use as spacers, but I'll find something. The configuration of the baffles baffles me, but otherwise a pretty darn nice job. Good tip to take from this post: use masking tape or painters tape for a clean appearnce.
