Has anyone on here had any success with the Oceanic skimmer made for the biocubes? I'm messing with mine, trying to get it working correctly, which seems to be a not so easy task to begin with. Finally got it to the point where the bubbles are popping at the right level and not just filling the cup in an hour. I'm just not sure the thing is capable of doing anything productive. After it ran all night, there is about 3/4" of foam, but its clean and white  [IMG]

Am I just expecting too much of this thing or is it going to take a while for it to "kick in" ?

As always, thanks for all your help everyone!

Well most skimmers need a little break in time. But a far as the stock biocube skimmer I have heard they are worthless...sorry

Oy, I figured that was the answer. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I really need to run a skimmer, 3 small fish, couple crabs couple snails and buncha zoas. Having some issues with cyano at the moment, just trying to slowly try things to see what the issue is. The only thing I have not eliminated is my water, the filters in the RO/DI I'm using may be old. Gonna goto Pets Playhouse today and get a bucket of water for my top offs and see how that does me. In the meantime I figured running the skimmer wouldnt hurt.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a skimmer? I know the Sapphire one is nice, but they are apparently going out of business and I do not want to have to worry about having something that I cannot get parts for or get warranty stuff taken care of.

What size biocube are you running? I believe you can run a remora in a 29 and I know some people had luck with the aquaticlife mini skimmer. I ran one for a while and have it laying around if your interested.

I have the 29G. I might be interested, I will look it up on google and take a look at it. Rough guess on price?

Marine Depot they go for 59.99 new. Here is a thread on nanoreef.com. There is mixed reviews on it but it worked fine for me. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=188290

I've heard really good things about the Sapphire Aquatics recirculating skimmers made for the Biocubes. Waverz has one...he can probably give you some feedback on it. I don't see anyone selling these anymore...maybe they are OOB?

Yeah I believe they are no more, none of the places listed on their web site sell them anymore.

I said Remora earlier will fit. I actually ment Tunze. You won't find a brand new Saphire they are out and sounds like the guy owes people some money. I guess the pumps were burning out or impellers...cant remember which one. There is a big thread on nanoreef.

I have a sapphire skimmer for my nanocube. It worked great until the impeller got shreaded and the pump died. I got the upgraded pump and the new, tougher impeller and it works amazingly, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the pump didn't burn out in a year again.... It works really well though. Try one of the Euro-reef skimmers http://www.globeaqua.com/skimmers_euroreef.html I have heard good things about these guys for a while now. Ditch the Bio Cube skimmer and pick up one of these or the Tunze. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

I have an AquaC Nano Remora on my 12g nano and I think it was fitted with an undersized pump. I don't think it's doing much for me. Maybe if I swapped out the pump for a MJ1200, it might do better.
