So, I though I would give a quick review of a new skimmer I received. I did a lot of researching and I decided on the Skimz (SKIMZ SM 161 Monzter E-Series) skimmer from aquacave. Reason for choosing this skimmer was the very, very low power consumption(13w) from a Italian made skimz pump. Also, if I ever decide(when I decide I should say) to upgrade my aquarium to a 220 this will still be big enough to handle the total water volume of that system. This will be running on my 180 with a total water volume of 255 gallons including my sump. I purchased it on a Sunday and had it by Tuesday afternoon. Right out of the box I could tell it had a thick manufacturing film on it so next step was into a vinegar bath. All parts took about a 12 hour bath in a very light vinegar bath and then got a real good rinse. Putting it together was a snap as the instructions were very easy to follow. From the reviews that I had read break in period was roughly 3-5 days so I wasn't expecting much from it for the first few days. The micro bubble adjuster is real easy to operate simply turning a knob to raise or lower a paddle that controls the flow into the bottom of the skimmer and that's it. As soon as I had the water level where I wanted it I let it sit and run for a few hours and when I came back down it was already pulling some nice fluffy dark gunk out. I was really impressed with how fast it was pulling stuff out. I cannot even begin to tell you how quite this thing is compared to the old skimmer. Needless to say that so far after a week of running I am very pleased with my purchase of this skimmer and with aquacave for the incredible fast shipping.

I have this same skimmer, although mine is technically called a Warner Marine MF161. Alsmost the same skimmer just mine has a moddified bubble plate. Got it from Jon Warner for cheap as it was used for pictures, but never actually used. Awesome skimmer, I will go skimz for my next skimmer for sure. Glad you are liking yours.
