So I have this tiny colony of Overly Orange that seem to be overtaken by a sponge. The zoas don't appear to be harmed but I think they're getting pushed out of their light spots by the expanding sponge.

Anyone experience this or have an idea as to how to get the sponge out without harming my zoas too much?

And yea, I'm battling incessant hair algae too :mad:

If possible, expose the sponge to air which should kill it. Zoas can handle being out of water for several hours so short exposure won't impact them at all. Either pull the frag out or drain the tank enough to expose the sponge for a bit.

"It typically doesn't take much for an entire sponge to die, and how long it was out of water often has little to do with it. If it comes out of the water for even one second, the end result will often be the same - death."

Great! I'll give the air exposure a shot. The frag that the zoas came on has been epoxied to the rock, but I have no issue with breaking it off if it gets rid of the sponge.

    Thank you Eric!

Really? I like the sponges, zoas grow everywhere but sponges don't. I would have kept the sponge and let the zoas grow around it.
