I guess getting out of the hobby is hard to do. After several threats from the better half to either get interested in my tank again or get rid of it I knew I had to make a decision. I had all but given up on my 75 over a year ago. Part of the problem was my stand finish was looking rough (among other things ). I found someone who refinishes counter tops and had him spray my stand and canopy. It's been a few months and it is holding up great. The stuff seems bullet proof and has a nice granite look. It's got me excited to get the tank back to the original standard. Anyway, I throw the idea out there for anyone looking for a facelift on their stand. If anyone is interested I can share a picture.

Now, time to slowly start restocking.

I would be interested in seeing what it looks like, I've been looking for something different for my biocube stand

Ya I would be interested as well. I was actually getting ready to use a good white cabinet paint on mine but would entertain this idea. Please do share.

Here is a general picture. He had a bunch of different finishes. I chose a high gloss as the top coat for durability. It's holding up nicely.

Very nice and unique /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif I like it! Yes, do you know the manufacturer of the spray and what type of undercoat was put on? Did he sand the stand before applying the undercoat? Thanks a bunch! I sure do like it!!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif Once you get the GHA under control/gone, you will be home free!/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/satisfied.gif

I don't recall the manufacturer. It's an epoxy based finish so he had some specialized equipment to apply it. It was a three part process. A base coat, the "granite" stuff, and the clear finish. All the coats when on right after they prior was applied on the same day.

I prepped my stand to save some money. I scuffed it with sandpaper, filled in any perfections and wiped it with a acetone right before spraying it. He just brought his trailer and set up in the garage. He was done in 90 minutes.

I think I have heard of it but I can't remember it either:9( I will do some searching when I get some free time. If I find it, maybe I'll try it on an old dtand that I have...if it's worth trying and not too expensive. What I'm thinking of might require a spray gun/tool of some sort but I don't recall that. Maybe with his business, he's high-tech so gets the supplies in bulk and then has at it! lol Thanks again!!

Found the old email string. Hawk Research Labs was where I looked at samples.
