I am wanting to add a starfish to my tank. This is something I have always wanted since the first day I setup a tank.  Anyone have some recommendations as to which ones are easiest to keep?
The one I really have had my eyes on is the marbled star.  http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+528+580&pcatid=580.

I was told the Red and Black Sea Star were one of the more successful starfish in a reef so that is what I got. I think I have had it six months and it is doing great.

Don't get a chocolate chip star, they are easy but will eat corals. I put one in my tank to feed my harlequin 8 months ago, and well two weeks later i noticed the bastard was still alive and in one piece so my harley didn't make it. about 4 months later I noticed him eat half of one of my acan colonies(6+heads). so I banished him to the angler tank and later sold the setup.

I do have a sand sifting star in my main reef tank and he is awesome. he will bury himself in the sand during the day then at night come out and sift through the sand and clean the glass. IMO a really good addition for CUC. You won't see him much but he will help keep things clean and he is tough.

One day my wife called me and said a loud grinding noise was coming from my inside my tank so I told her to pinpoint it. she finally noticed the star fish stuck to my mp10 with one leg all banged up. It's been 6 months since that ordeal and he is all healed up and doing good.

From my experience stay away from choco stars if you have softies or lps. A sand sifting star would be a good addition to help you with keeping the tank clean and not plowing through or eating corals while he's doing it. Good luck!

I have had 2 green serpent stars over the last 10 12 years and they are the hardest thing to kill in a tank. I know I have had my share of issues. They just keep growing and limbs come back. I have had the current one for over 7 years now.

I've had a black/grey brittle star for seven years that came in as a hitch hiker. The only draw back to a green serpent is that when they get big they can become fish killers, but folks have kept them w/o losing fish. The brittle is a regular hoover for uneaten food in the tank.
