Well I am getting ready to start my first frag tank. Those of you who know me and my tank will laugh . Yes I know .. My display tank is only7.5 gallons and the frag tank will be a hollowed out 12 gallon aqua pod. I will be fragging my zoos to start with and when and if I get a light upgrade I will start fragging my sps. Wish me luck. I have one question to ask everyone if I use water from my display tank meaning half display tank water and half fresh mix will I still cycle? This frag tank will not be plumbed into main tank. So any help will be appreciated !/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif

Are you keeping anything but frags in the tank. Like fish, or live rock? What are you doing for filtration on the frag tank?
Water alone I don't think will do much to prevent a cycle. If you have a sponge or something you could run in the display and then transfer over to the frag tank it would help more than anything.

I have a taam rio skimmer filter for now . I know complete sh!@#$#$ but it will work to filter for now. I can put some live rock from the sump of the display tank in there that should help . YOu think that will work.

Add live rock along with tank water. Add some bacteria like Microbacter7 and it should be fine as long as you have put enough LR in it and no fish. Monitor params and stock slowly.

OK, here are the pics of my tiny new frag tank . The lights will be improved when funds are available. its bubbly due to the taam rio skimmer . I have 1 piece of big live rock in it and will put more in maybe tomorrow.

ok led and lighting experts I have a lighting issue i need answered. I can get a boost led par 30 bulb and goose neck pretty cheap will that work for sps and lps growth in a frag tank. Or do I go a home made job for sale i saw for 115 . here is the write up its a rapid led kit. there are 16 leds, 4 red, 4 blue, and 8 whites. i don't remember what kind of driver it has one it. but it works great and everything functions like it should. they are not dimmable with the controller that is on it now. Is that something more of what i should use on a frag tank? It was built for a 50 to 60 gallon tank.

I'd be very very leery of buying a used DIY led. Who knows if it was built correctly in the first place, but that's just me. Also the color choice seems very odd. Not enough blues and real heavy on the reds. I think you would be happier with something else. If you want a DIY led have someone in the club help you build one. As for the par30 bulb I have no idea on those.
