I've started a new 29 GL bio cube tank. Have decided to start a 75 GL reef tank, use the 29 for a quarantine tank.

I have no real idea of what I'm doing with saltwater. It's my plan to take it slow and easy, with the larger tank to insure success. It's just a regular 75 GL tank, with no over flow, ECT.

My dry rock, RO/DI system, few other items should arrive today.

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Welcome!

what are you using for filtration since you have no overflow?

Welcome! You can come over sometime and see my tank. Also my dog. Molly is an 8 yr old orange/white brittany - like your profile picture. People want to take my dog home as much as they want to take my tank home. o_O

using a API Filstar XP-M, and a bak pak skimmer. Already regret going this route.

As I'm setting here writing this, I am thinking about taken all this back, and just getting a different tank, with a overflow and everything else.
update later on my final decision.

We just had to put my babygirl down about just over a month ago :-( she would have been 12 this month. One reason I'm looking at getting into this.

I have an Eshop PF-800 hang on the back overflow with syphon and overflow protection. I had this on my 75G for two years. I got it cleaned up nicely and packaged back into its original box. I would sell this as its only collecting dust. This would assist you with putting a sump under the tank.

You could also see my 225 reef setup.

I would definitley consider doing a sump. Either by drilling your current tank, or doing a hang on back overflow. It adds to the water volume and really cleans things up being able to hide extra equipment and other things you don't necessarily want seen in the reef tank.

Research, take your time, and ask lots of questions. Plenty of good people in this club that will help you make this adventure a success.

I second the recommendation of drilling. It's a foolproof way of adding so much to a system,... or turning a tank into part of a complete system.

change of plans. I did take everything else back, then purchased a reef tank with overflow ECT. Now too figure out how it's put together. :)
