For those of you out there that love getting really small frags because they are inexpensive, read this article! You might find more success in the hobby if you can just wait a little longer for a larger frag! Also for those of us fragging, if we could wait a little longer then our fellow hobbyist might have better success!!!

I didnt read past the point where they said only 13% of one inch frags survived.

If they cant get more then 13% of their frags to live, I cant believe the rest of the study.

I have had better luck with larger frags.
It might also depend on the mother colony as well. If it was an aquacultured coral, or wild specimen. It sounds like these were strait out of the ocean from a coral farm.
I'm sure that had a ton to do with the lower survival rate of the small frags.

It is important to realize that this is an older article as well.

There is a lot of truth to what they say though :)

  6. i have been expirementing with a chalice i have at home and wierdly enough the only frags i have got to survive after gluing them to a frag plug or rubble were the ones i did so under water without removing them from the tank. weather its just me or not or being new to propagation of corals i dont know? but i did read the majority of the article.

I read that and seen a very similar article a few months ago. Not sure I agree with the survival rate of frags being glued underwater / out of water either. I suppose being fraged directly in the ocean vs an aquarium does make a big difference though.
