So, my yellow clown goby was missing for a couple days....couldn't find him anywhere. He's a very bright and colorful little guy and very active - all 1 inch of him. His name is "Lemon Drop". He's usually front and center perched on top of a rock or a coral...or even stuck right on the front glass...don't know how he does that, but it's cool. His absence was very noticeable. After searching high and low in the tank in, under and behind rocks, my search reverted to the floor and behind the tank....looking for the dreaded crispy critter, curled up in agony. But, still no goby. So....after some hair-brained fleeting thought, I looked in the overflow box. Low and behold, there's my beloved Lemon Drop...stuck to the the foam filter of the last compartment of the overflow. He must have gone into the collection box, up the tube, past the first chamber of the rear box, and then stuck onto the filter of the final chamber. He was frozen in place, with his fins flapping in the current. The wife takes one look at him and proclaimed "he's dead"....I thought the same. "Oh well....better get him out anyway", I thought. After dismantling the overflow and removing it from the tank (pain in the butt, btw), he laid motionless at the bottom of the box. "Poor little guy", I thought....crappy way to die...get sucked up in a tube and then stuck to a foam filter until your demise. As I proceeded to dump him out, I saw him move a little. Then notice his gills moving up and down. "Dang - there's life here." So, I added a little water and poured him back in the tank to see what would happen....thinking he would just sink to the bottom. But, without hesitation, he swam away. Then he perched on one of his favorite rocks. I fed the tank and hoped he would be strong enough to eat, since he hadn't eaten for several days; ate with eagerness as normal....scrappy little guy. I turned all the blowers and sump back on. The tank resumed its normal activity and Lemon drop reclaimed his perching places....cool. I wonder if he'll go near the intake box again. If he does, he'll surely get sucked back up into the overflow. So, I if he goes missing again, I'll look in the overflow first. I guess in a reef tank with lots of current and so many mechanical contraptions, it just sucks to be small.

That happened to my mandarin, twice! After the huge pita it was to get him out, I made sure to put the black plastic screen stuff in the overflow intake area......they're the type of fish that will just keep getting in there as they look for food. Put something over the intake so he won't get in there again, because they will /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Glad you found the little bugger alive!
