So I have a Maxi-jet 1200 as one of the powerheads in my tank. It's affixed to the glass via suction cups. Every now and again one of the cups comes unstck and I have sand all over the place. Anyone have a good solution to this problem?

look up BRS under maxi jets. There is something called sure grip magnet. You attach it in place of the suction cups to the maxi jet and the other side to outside of your tank. It works great also to place inside storage mixing containers as well, especially the round garbage cans. the magnet is pricey, but I use it all the time in various situations.

$44?!?!? Wowza. And I'm about to get another MJ. I may have to rethink...
    Thanks, guys.

I'd consider a different powerhead that includes a magnet mount already. I like the hydor Koralia pumps. They are reasonably priced and have a good mount. They will have a much wider flow pattern that the maxijet as well.

Yeah, I have one Koralia and one MJ. want one or two more and the MJ is powerful and cheap. But I definitely want them to stick to the dang tank. *sigh*

Foster and Smith have them right now for $19.99 and shipping is free for orders over $49. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...atid=16752
I got a deal on used ones from another GIRS member.  On the other hand, there is something to be said for power heads that come with the magnet mounts.  I would like to try a Korila someday.

As bad as this sounds, as soon as I read the title to this thread I knew it was from a maxi jet haha. If you want cheap powerheads, koralias are the way to go without a doubt. Never cared for the maxi jet upgrades, they just look so half-***'d. If you really wanna start talking tho, get yourself some vortechs haha.

I'm gonna suffer the MJ until I get all the essentials and get the tank sticked up. Then I'll go pretty. Maybe even an MP10, but that's crazy money.
In the meantime, $20 isn't bad for the magnet thingy.

For sure. You know, when I first got into this, just a few years ago. I made fun of the guys who spent the money they did on Vortech's and Apex's. Now I understand why, as I have them now. Funny how that works out right? Haha.

Do you have an extra magnetic algae cleaner around? Super glue the MJ to the scraper and you've got a no fail MJ holder. Works like a charm.

Thanks a good idea. I need to buy a bigger scraper anyway.

Go big and those things start seeming a whole lot cheaper LOL. A $200 shopping trip is commonplace for my tank, and it really doesn't get me a whole lot.
