Sump/ external overflow informational posting

    This is just a thread for a few people who asked about sump and external overflows.
    The first picture is where the water drains in my sump and goes to where my live lock is at along with my skimmer.  The floating filter pad helps keeps the noise down from the splashing since I didn't really think about how high to drill the hole.  And did so about 5 inches too high.

    From the picture above, to the picture below I only tweeked my ball valve slightly to raise the tank water line higher so there would be absolutely no splashing going into the overflow because the water isn't falling into it, it's draining.  Normally I don't keep my water this high, but this is just to show that you can make an external overflow work well if you play around with water levels to get minimal splashing in the overflow box itself.
