Has anyone ever sumped a 29 gallon biocube? Any advice on how to go about it? I am planning on doing it within the next couple of weeks and would like some input. Thanks!

Nanoreef has a lot of info on it. I'm not a fan personally as it defeats having the all in one.

I am not completely set on doing it, just thought it would be better for the tank and bioload.

If your going to put that much effort into a summed system I'd get a bigger tank like a 40b or something.

I have been wanting a bigger tank! But a BioCube seems like the perfect size for a college apartment with no access to RO besides at lfs.

Right now I just have the second chamber full of live rock and a small hob filter in the first chamber (from the right)... just to get a little carbon in there.... otherwise thats it... I would like to be able to get a sump going because I get woken up quite often by the sound of the pump shooting out bubbles because the back sump is running dry... but I can't add too much water that I am not getting any bubbles from the water drop.... STRUGGLES

Personally I'd ditch the live rock in the back chamber and get one of the intank media rack and run filter floss purigen and chemipure. I'd also look into the intank fuge and throw some cheato and a light in there for pods. Maybe ditch the hob. Also sound's like you would benefit from an auto top off.

You can do a diy media rack. I did in my 14g biocube.

Thanks for that idea! I just looked to see how much those cost and they were like $60... Egg crate would be a lot cheaper... Any other mods you made to your biocube?

Don't like sand? I put another small pump in mine on the side glass and felt like it was overkill! I understand not wanting dead spots, but I have been cleaning my return pump regularly and it seems like there is plenty of current.

The hydor pico is an upgrade to the stock return pump. Alot of people use cobalts.

Ohhhh gotcha. Ill have to check into those. Maybe a little more current wouldn't hurt.

Isn't hurting my tanks but I don't have sand in either of them. I find it easier to keep clean and keep the levels in check

I have had lots of fun with my biocube 14. I wouldn't sump biocubes, there isn't really any reason. Maybe if you wanted to run a huge skimmer, but you don't need one. I think an ATO is almost a must. I also recently removed all my sand. I had a couple inches in there for about 2 years. With the tight space I never could vacuum it, but had a good clean up crew, but I noticed algae problems when I never had any. Made the call to take it out and I can't believe how nasty nasty nasty it was. If you want sand just do a light layer so you can blow it around (down to the bottom) for waterchanges and get that junk out.

I have media basket in chamber 2, and chamber 3 is filled almost to the top where the JBJ sensor is. I keep a old cheeseball container in the stand for kalk water topoffs with an aqualifter.
