Hey a question for all of you out there, I currently have a 55 gal coral tank and all of my corals have gone crazy and now im out of room so i would like to get a bigger tank how would i go by setting up the new tank? Do i just transfer the water out of the old tank into the bigger tank? or do i have to add new water and let it cycle through out the tank? I will be getting new sand and all that and some new rock. any help would be awesome. Thanks

what would be ideal is if you could set your new tank up in a new location get your new rock and sand and all cycled then move everything. if that isnt an option i think as long as your new  rock is cured and you have plenty of tubs, buckets and water youll be fine. just make sure you have a good day to make the switch. how big a tank you going too?

well im still looking for a bigger tank but i have a 4 foot wall that its going up against so i want a tank atleast 4foot long probably a 75gal or so. i have plenty of tubs and buckets so that wouldnt be a problem. I thought about setting the new tank up somewhere and when i do a water change from the tank i have i thought about putting that water in the new tank and letting it cycle for about 2weeks then emptying it and draining all the water into tubs from the old tank and switching the old with the new because the new one is going on the stand that the old one is on. But i wasnt sure if it would be safe doing that or not.

If you have a 4 foot area, a 120 would be ideal and give you plenty of space to grow into. The problem being is finding one. I went from a 37g to a 75g and still within a few months relly wished I had more depth. Plus if you go with the 120, you wont have to justify the space 6 mnth down the road.

yeah i have been looking for a 100 or bigger but i have only found a couple 100s that are 4 feet and they wanted over 1200 just for the tank, i have found a few 75s for like 200. Thats a big price difference : )

When I went from a 55 to my 75 I filled the 75 about half way with new water and just switched everything over, topping it off with the old tank water. Had no problems.

I agree with them if your gonna make the switch i would find a 120 even if it takes some time. a 75 is'nt gonna give you much more room. The more water in your system the better! In the long run i think you will be a whole lot happier if you just hold out till you find one. Im surprised Aj hasnt chimed in he always seems really good at finding things for people lol.

The best thing for him with a 4 foot wall like that would be a 4 foot 120... I'm in the same situation and that's what I did. Good front to back depth for the 4 foot width. gb's tank would certainly fit the bill.
