I dont think your kelvins matter. For instance i can run 20k 14k or 10k bulbs in my mh lights fixture. Just has to be 150 watt bulbs

Just want to double check being they are so much lower.  My thinking is as long as the wattage is the same it should work, correct?

Wattage is the only factor you need to worry about.

Wattage is the only thing you need to worry about with T5s, but with power compacts there's straight pin and there's square pin, then with halides there's double ended bulbs and screw in mogul bulbs, T5s are all the same.

What brand of bulb is this 3,000K bulb? Did someone tell you to get this bulb or what? 3,000K seems too far out of the usable spectrum for corals to be put on a reef tank IMO. I think I remember reading that corals can't use any light lower than 6,000K or so, but I may be remembering wrong...

We are picking up some cheap grow bulbs, GE brand I think.  We are trying to grow algae.  The light fixtures will actually be going on the algae scrubber we are putting together.  Fingers crossed it will be done by Christmas weekend.
