OK, so I went on vacation for a week and when I came back my Biocube 29 was turned off. It was my fault. I don't want to get into it.

I lost my big leather and 2 RBTs. One miraculously survived, as did my clown. I was in the process of downgrading tanks, so my big tank was still running upstairs. I threw the clown in there and he's looking good again. The RBT that's still in the Biocube is looking better. There are still some zoos that look like they want to come around again. I can still see the star polyps on the rocks, but they haven't come out. All of my mushrooms seem to be gone. That's about all the was in there.

At any rate, I tested nitrates and they're sitting at 10-15ppm after changing out 20 gals of water. Not sure what else I should be testing, as I know the leather probably poisoned the water good.

The water's still looking a little cloudy, but other than that it seems like things are on the upswing. What am I not thinking of?

Bacterial colony crash, then a bloom = cloudy water

Keep up on PWCs and run carbon, lots of carbon

Lots of aeration, either skimmer or an airstone.

Might get a pack of that ammonia absorbing stuff too as you're going to go through at least a mini cycle and that could burn off bacteria again.

In a pinch, add prime (5mL per 100g) every other day to neutralize nitrogen compounds. This will lock them up so they are not harmful but will still be biologically available to baceria

Carbon and water changes. It's probably just going to take some time to get things cleaned up again.
If the big tank is still running maybe taking some of the live rock and water from an established and healthy system might turn things around a little quicker too. - Not sure on that theory though.

Yeah, I've actually used Prime a couple times. I'm running the InTank Media basket with a couple sponges, a filter pad that says its for nitrates (umm), Purigen and Chemipure.

I like the idea of reseeding the tank, although I'm not sure how healthy it is since there's been no light in there for weeks.

I'm in no rush, I guess. I wanted to get the big tank torn down before we left for vacation, but now I'm glad it was still there to take the nearly dead clownfish.

I mostly feel like a moron.
