I have a drilled overflow in my tank. One of the holes has chipped a little glass on the top surface. My bulkhead seal does not cover a tiny part of the chip and as a result I have a small drip on the underside of the hole and into my stand.

My fist solution was to put a bulkhead seal on both sides of the hole. Didn't work.

So my question is this. I was thinking of siliconing the bulkhead to the glass. This will stop the leak IF silicone will attach to the SCH80 Bulkhead and the glass bottom. Will this work do you think? Is there a different type of caulk that I should consider using if silicone will not work?

Is this where the leak was comeing from or is this a new issue?

    new issue.

The leak was not where I thought it was. It is in one corner. I can tell where it was because there is a bunch of green algae crap inbetween the glass brace and the bottom of the tank.

I'm also thinking of sealing an acrylic plate over the overflow hole. A plate with a hole the same size as the hole in the glass. It would fuse over the crack, making it obsolete. Can you glue acrylic to glass and if so what compound do you use?

That's what I was going to suggest but i have no advice as to what to use to seal the two probably opoxy of some sort. I would ask these questions on Reef central DIY forum as there are alot more people on there and alot more traffic.

I have heard on RC that you cannot glue/silicone acrylic and glass together. I'd ask though on RC.

If that's the case just use a piece of glass insted of acrylic. Or just buy a new tank and sell me the old one :)

I've done something similar to this and the silicone sealed the hole just fine.  If this doesn't work, then use glass, not acrylic to cover the hole.  Acrylic does not bond well with silicone.

I used an egregious amount of silicone between the bulkhead seal and the overflow hole and chip and solved this issue. Thanks.

Glad to assist.  :)  How is this project coming along?  Tank all sealed up, cured, etc?  Everything set back up?
