Thanks Bill for the fragging demonstration today. That was incredibly generous of you to give away so many frags. I thought the divet in the plug was a very clever way to get the frags to glue effectively.
Thanks Andy for the presentation on probiotics and carbon dosing....very informative. It's amazing the amount of chemistry in a reef tank !!
And...thanks to all who made the trip to North Liberty for the meeting. Bill gets the award for the longest drive, from south of Mt Pleasant. Tina gets 2nd place for coming in from Cedar Falls.

Great info at the meeting about Probiotics. It made me almost reconsider using the biopellets, only because I have a mixed reef. Andy had alot of great information and very knowledgeable on this subject. Bill I would like to thank you for the frag, great fragging demo.

Hey everybody thanks for all the great feedback! I'm glad the talk was well recieved, and I hope it was somewhat coherent, sometimes I don't always stick to my plan and get off on tangents.
I had a tough time yesterday after I left with car troubles so I ended up getting home pretty late, here are some of the examples I wanted to show you of Probiotic/ULNS, this one is from www.hausriff.ch and is a Zeovit.

You'll notice that some of these tanks have lighter more pastel colors, somewhat more natural if you observe wild reefs.
I hope everybody else made it home okay, and we really appreciate those of you making the drive. Next month we're doing a tank tour and the month after that I would like you're guys' input on what you'd like to hear about.
    Cya peeps!

Yeah, good get together thanks guys!  I wish I'd had this kind of resource when I first got into reefkeeping!
Hey Andy-one quick thought... Does anyone dose carbon sources with their topoff water?  Seems like this would be a simple calculation once they got their amounts adjusted...

hmm.... That's an interesting thought. Not that I've ever heard of, there are probably several reasons for this:
    1) risk of overdose from automated systems would be dire instead of just irritating when limewater OD's occur.
    2) amount of top off water used each day is variable, especially in the summer, if you have 1 gallon calculated for top off and end up needing 1.5 or 2, then you will likely overdose.
    3) limewater is a great source of calcium, carbonate, and pH stability that really shouldn't be over looked, adding ethanol to this mixture would have unknown effects.
    4) storing a mixture of ethanol and top off water isn't likely to remain stable, ethanol will precipitate at slow rate at room temp.
Sounds like a good idea at first, but then if you consider all of these barriers it becomes impractical
