I'd like to remove some of the metallic green hairy mushrooms in my tank before they completely own it. Is there some way to get these puppies to release from the rocks without hurting them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Pretty tough to kill mushrooms, but try to cut away a bit of the rock where they are attached. Even if they retract, they will probably not die. I try to kill them with an X-acto knife, and they regenerate from almost nothing.

That is my understanding too, of you leave just a little of the base on the rock when you cut the mushroom off it will regrow.

I have been doing some looking into for this as well for you Deb.  Looks like our only hope is I'll bring some nice shinny razors with me when I come over to do your LEDs for you /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif  You can step out of the room for that part.  They are harder to kill then the terminator(and more resilient) and even harder to get to let go on thier own so we will just have to cut the best we can and scrape off every little bit we can.  Another thing I was looking at was some people have had good luck with dipping in ice cold water for the ones that are alone on rocks I know some of yours that isn't an option for because there are other things your trying to save from the hairy guys.  But the cold water thing will hinder your wanting to give them away.  And not real sure I like that idea all that much anyway.

Like Jim said the only way to get rid of them is to take bone cutters and cut them and a portion of the rock there on away.

I don't mind splitting some rock, but am not really into just killing them. It's not their fault they're growing by leaps and bounds. Call me a softie!!

You can also use a thick kalk paste and inject them with a syringe as you would aptsia.

Yeah , i need a safe way to get them off my clam. He has grown used to them but they breed like crazy. He has 10 huge ones on him. When I got him he only had 1 on him. They are pretty mushrooms . All Green with 4 white stripes like a plus sign and red bumps all over it. Don't want to kill them either.
