I kinda figured that mixing 2 different salt brands might not be a good idea, that is, mixing them in the same bucket at the same time. Not that I read anything that said that was a bad idea or anything, I just was hesitant to do that without asking. For me it's been so long since I did a water change I was just going to do a straight switch and start small like 10%, then 15%, then 20%, etc

I also mixed the old and new salts for water changes when I went from one salt to another.

I am just worried about a shock to the system, or even a major spike of some kind or another.

Also wondering how the temp of the water has anything to do with the mixing process, obvious for dissolving purposes, but I leave room temp jugs with rodi for top off. I would think that would be sufficient.

You're not going to spike anything with a 10% PWC though.

My RODI sits in the basement and is about 65F in the summer, 60F or less in the winter. I throw in a handful of cheap 400W heaters for 30 minutes and it's up above 70F, then I mix in the salt, 30m later it's up to temp.

I put together a chart once actually that factored in the initial temp of the water, number of gallons, and the number of heaters and it spit out the time to reach 75F. Can't remember what I did with it though

When I switched I just went for it and will do the same when I switch again. Unless your doing a water change on a nano tank which your not you won't even notice a swing maybe .2 dhk.

If I was doing a nano I would just match tank parameters with new salt by adding alk or call additives and slowly raise or lower tank over a couple weeks.

I think red sea is fairl u close to what your using already isn't it?

You should be good. I would think as long as you don't do a large water change you will be fine.
I do same as Bud. Add heater couple hours before water change.

What do you mean? You add saltwater to your tank to top off evaporation ?

Only RODI to top off, the salt does not evaporate!!

Last night I did a water change, and took some before pics, ( I will post tonight) and added only 5 Gal of the mixed salt.
Heated the water with the heaters thanks @Turbo's Aquatics@Turbo's Aquatics, for that tip.! mixed with a power head and tested. and this morning every thing took fine and looks good.

About 35min after feeding. waited for all the plankton to disparate. worked out pretty good. I was shocked it came around so quick.

I received it in a package, I purchased, but it almost (looked) dead. So from day 1 I directly fed it. And did the water merge. Very impressed so far....
