    So the plate was open before your 5g water change or not?

    Im confused as to what your trying to say with a before shot of the new coral in a bottle the an after shot of the same coral with no bottle over it

    Its pretty normal for a plate not to inflate for a bit after shipping which can be confused to almost looking dead

    Do you know what their parameters were, lighting ect?

    Maybe yours are better then what it was in. All im saying is i highly doubt the 5g water change is what did it. Spot feeding maybe.....

    Just dont want the newbies to think that because your of red sea pro 5g water change that you did made this plate look better.

    Imo its that your parameters are better then what it was in. Now in 2 weeks you show increased growth in your corals like i showed then hey its a good salt

    What does red sea mix to in a 5g bucket when following the directions?

    reef crystals mixes to 1.023
    --- Auto-Merged, Aug 21, 2015 ---
    Which makes 160g at 1.026

    So red sea pro will make like 125g or so at 1.026

    So i did some math to what is said on dr fosters

    So 175g bucket will make 1.021 sg which is 1.4lbs. Which means the bucket should weigh 49lbs

    To make 1.025sg you add 1.6lbs which comes out to be 153.125g at 1.026 its around 148g of mix. For $72.99 on Dr fosters without tax

    Reef crystals 200g box is $49.99 on dr fosters without tax which makes about 169g at 1.026 so around 175g at 1.025
    --- Auto-Merged, Aug 21, 2015 ---
    I should add that the box of reef crystals weighs 56lbs for a 200g box

    Thats what i came up with ;)

    I was bored so I did the same but I used BRS for the pricing. I also mix in 10g batches so I increased the amount of salt used. Honestly, for $10 more (rounding) if I didn't have to dose as much, I'd switch.

    Price Capacity Mixing/10G # of Batches $/Batch $/Gal
    $ 62.99 200 3.2lbs 20 $ 3.15 $ 0.31
    $ 72.99 175 3.2lbs 17.5 $ 4.17 $ 0.41

    It is if you go through Bulk Reef Supply without shopping around ;). Drs. Foster & Smith has a sale going on to make it $49.99. That sale price of course makes a bigger difference between the two.

    @Ray/Jen_Reefin@Ray/Jen_Reefin will just have to tell us how much the parameters changed on her tank from using the new salt. I'd imagine in the new salt made the levels go up, you wouldn't have to dose as much? All just theory.
