I have been getting my tank back in line after getting caught up in a move. Now things are starting to look happier again but my goodness these mushrooms are multiplying like crazy. I liked it when there was a couple but it seems like a new one it pooping up every other day.

What is a easy way to thin this heard out? I've not run into this problem before.

I would think a syringe of lemon juice or vinegar would kill them like it does aptasia but I have never tried.

One of the bad things about mushrooms. Certain ones spread like that some are slower. I had a smaller I believe yuma that was on a small rock. It grew off the rock and moved about 4-5 inch leaving a trail behind it. In the process took out half a candy cane colony.

  5. Something to ponder. If you take a syringe of boiling water and hit the base of them occasionally they will let go of their hold (similar to that of an anemone). That way you can collect them and relocate them or sell them. A rapidly growing softy would certainly be useful to many hobbyists.
You can use lemon juice the same but I am not a fan of introducing too many foreign fluids into the tank. Just be cautious of course you don't get too close to your zoas (or favia - I can't tell from the pics)
If you do choose to melt them be sure to have a water change ready as a melting discomosa will slime up good and your LPS/SPS won't be fans of that!

I never thought of that!! I have a tank full of fuzzy mushrooms and short of chipping off the rock they are attached to with a chisel, slicing them off just means they will re-grow...might have to try this, as long as it might work with the fuzzies

I'm going to try that. I would love to not kill them off if I don't have to. Especially with the tank only being 24 gal. I worried that it may have to big effect with them dying. I head out for vacation tomorrow but will see how it goes when I get back.

Post your results. I have some mushrooms that I would like to eradicate from the tank too.

I just grab the coral tweezers, hook onto the base and yank... Mine grow like crazy and I have to keep pulling them off my zoa farm...
