Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in changing socks

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing not use the socks...

At any rate. Whats your opinion. I have been running socks for... 3 or 4 years now. and am kinda getting sick of them. I stoped runing them on my frag system and things look to be pretty dang good... I mean, As stable if not moreso that what I had originally with socks...

If you keep them cleaned and dont mind the work, I really like them.

Especially if you have heavy SPS. It really helps with water clarity. Now if you just plan on keeping LPS, softies, and zoas, not so critical I would say.

I never got in a good habit and schedule of changing them when I ran them. I'd forget them for way too many days between changes and that's probably not the best. If i'm blowing out my rocks and doing some significant "stirring up" of junk in the tank I'll try to put them on to catch the crap. Otherwise I decided sock less fit my maintenance - or rather lack of- schedule better.

I decided not to use them. both tanks of mine are doing great. I do my water changes rather religiously and change quite a bit more than 10% of the water each weekend. More like 20% each week. One of the things I like about this hobby is the "husbandry" hate that word. I really like the maintenance aspect of the hobby. I like testing the water, adjusting parameters to see if things do better, changing the water etc. I probably wouldn't mind changing socks but at this point don't feel the need to do it. Oh and I also love that the hobby is addicting, like crack cocaine.....only crack is much cheaper.

now that I am thinking about it, I hate wearing socks. Love sandals / flip flops / birkenstocks / keens / tivas even wore crocks for awhile. Man crocks would have looked great with my mullet and a fanny pack.

I used filter socks and hated them I prefer a really good skimmer and a lower flow through my sump.
