so when i first set my tank up i had these  coralife PC light fixtures, well after doing some learning i found out id only be able to keep mushrooms and leathers with those lights. maybe a select few lps.
so adam over at AE hooked me up and traded me those for the halides i have now.  not a bad light but im thinking im getting too much light now.  they come on at 11am and turn off around 7pm.  thing is i have noticed some of my lps starting to draw back.  in one of my other posts i said my trumpet corals had multiple mouths and found out they were splitting, but today i notice that their lips, thats what i call em anyway, that were once very full are now very thin. my bubble coral also seems to of taken to not show itself till after lights go out.   ive tested my water just moments ago and everything came out normal so lighting is all i can think of.   anyone else have thoughts on that?

you may need to acclimate the light... put some screens in the way,and slowly remove them over 3 weeks- or raise it up high, and lower it a bit every day.

how many watts on the halide?

I have had LPS under 400 watts of halide... it is possible but if you have 250, you should have not problems IF you acclimate them. Mushroom dont' like the high light though.

i have had the lights for a few weeks now things should be acclimated but my lights are 2 bulbs at 150 watts each, total of 300 watts. no acetics my mushrooms and such are doing fine, im mostly concerned about my trumpets and bubble coral.

my zoas are reaching up and i have them at one of the highest points in my tank. oh yeah these are 14k i belive

Maybe Chris AKA Snowman will chime in, he though he had to much light over his 125 with MH. But I would guess it would still be trying to acclimate to the light. Maybe move stuff around in the tank to see if that changes anyhting.

im going to try and run them for 6 hrs a day instead of 8. it kinda sucks only because i like looking at my tank.

my wife says i need to just stop sticking my hands in there and doing stuff and let things be.

yeah i still dont know about my light situation. got different bulbs coming so i hope that helps. i think my main thing is flow in my tank but not completely convinced. i run dual 400w on my 120 and i dont get crap for polyp extension or anything on sps and my acans have now all stayed closed up. but i have seen 120's with 250w on them and have extension like crazy so leads me to believe i have to much light but i could be wrong as i know of many 120's that have the same lights, maybe i'm moving in the wrong direction and have them to far away. which could be your issue as well, how far off the water are your lights?

trust me fellas you don't have too much light, i've been running dual 400's with 220 vho for YEARS and have done just fine. This is a case of lack of research/knowledge on how to properly acclimate lower lighting to higher more intense lighting. Going from pc's to halides is a huge change for a coral, and yes your corals will look like crap if not done right (which takes WEEKS).

any time you get different lights you need to acclimate the tank. best way imo is using screen cut to fit on top of your tank,5-7 layers imo and remove 1 a week. still keep your lights on the same schedule.

my tank has been up for months and my coral still don't have hardly any extension, some of my zoa's dont want to open up and some others get huge stalk on them...what could be that problem for me then? lights to far away possibly?

could be placement in the tank, flow issues, could be they just don't like you....ask around some of us have kept some zoas fine, other zoas die as fast as you put them in the tank...it's weird but it happens

I have had only one colony of zoas melt on me. Surprisingly enough, they were those yellow ones that are supposed to grow like weeds.
