I lost everything in my 300 gallon system thanks to a mistake by the power company thid week. We are getting ready to move and told them to shut off the power on June 3rd and they turned it off on the 27th instead. Wronge Friday!!!! I found the tank at 61 degrees and all the fish DEAD and the corals dying. Got as much pulled and into spare tanks at the new house as i could find room. 95% of the stuff is dead (acros, chalices, monti and alot of LPS)...only a few of my zoas are doing ok so far. The power company said opps and that was it.
The GOOD news from this was the wifes 75g was in trouble but still ALIVE. We decided since the big tank was gone to pull everything out and get it moved...fish, corals and inverts. Put everything in a 30L with an air pump, power head and a heater. Then went back to the 220. By the time we were done running around it was 530 in the morning. I checked on the spare tanks and EVERYTHING in the 30L was floating and the water was cloudy. Everything that was alive earlier was DEAD. The water felt warmer then normal.I pulled the heater (BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT FROM MARINELAND FOR THE STEALTH RECALL) looked at the setting and it was on 75 but when i used my temp gun to check the water it was 95.8....talk about getting kicked in the teeth twice.
The new tank is still going up but now i need to find some frags. Can anyone help me out with this?

Wow. Bummer. I keep telling myself to jump on a small generator just in case something like this happens (sounds like it may not have saved you in your specific situation). Good to see you not throwing in the towel though. Most people do that in cases like this.

    Best of luck!

Sorry for your loss Rich. Is the power company doing anything about it since it was their mistake? Really sucks! :-(

Sounds like legal action should be taken to me. Talk to insurance company maybe too? I used to be an adjuster but during catastrophes like hurricanes and I never came across a tank loss before. But insurance usually covers 'sudden and accidental' so I don't know if this would fall under that or not. Call you agent.

When it happened to Me my insurance said sorry about your bad luck not our problem they would only cover equipment and if it was caused by a fire, tornado, or something similar. So if your tank explodes like seascapes did insurance would cover damage to the house but not towards replacing the tank. Power company is going to tell u sorry but not our problem and u will spend more money in legal fees then it will cost you to just replace everything. Trust me I went through all this a few years ago. Sorry man it sucks but there's not much u can do but just rebuild

At a time like this, words aren't much solace but I am truely sorry for your loss. I hope you can find some frags. I'd like to help you out but my corals are just frags.

The rocks are going in the big tank now so hopefully we will have a better idea of what little bit is left by this evening. This is so sad to see what's left compared to what Rich had just a few days ago. For now we are going to just have the one "his n hers" tank.

I would be willing to cut a bunch of frags for free for you....if you sign up to be a GIRS member.

I don't have any frags cut at this time, and my frag tank is down.....but if you came over some day you can check my tank and pick whatever you want me to cut....within reason of course.....
