   Was reading article in coral magazine & thought I'd share.

   I always wondered why the clear tubing gets stiff after a year or so & now I know.
   Gonna have to invest in some silicone.

   I posted a question as to whether this applies to the more rigid-PVC-like spa flex, or just clear vinyl hose

   Iv never used the spa flex?
   Does it get rigid or stiff after a few years?
   Iv only used the clear stuff from menards for reactors and maxi jets on my skimmer.
   I think running GAC would probly catch most of the bad stuff that leaches out of the tubing tho.
   But switching to silicone will be my next investment

   I used spa flex and so did Matt for years, never got stiff that I could tell.

   Spa flex starts fairly stiff to begin with. I'm not sure you could tell if it gets more stiff and brittle over time.
   The clear stuff I have definitely had get harder and discolor just like the picture. Might have to look into changing that out. I have a relatively small amount on my system, but I guess better safe that sorry.
