Advice? Trying to kill of some of my corals

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by ChapmanFM, Jul 10, 2016.

  1. My green hairy are crowding another coral, slowly killing it. Any advice for spot killing mushrooms?

kalk paste would be a sure bet but you have to be careful not to have collateral damage in the neighborhood which sounds like it might be an issue in your situation. Might try vinegar, boiling water or lemon juice (same as aptasia) right in the mouth. You could cut them off and then put just a dab of really thick kalk paste on the stump which would be less likely to harm neighboring corals.

I am having the same issue with a massive green hairy mushroom. If I do kill it do I need to worry about a spike as it decomposes? Do I inject lemon juice or hot water wait a couple days and cut out as much as I can?

Try using ice cubes on the boot, just like you would with an anemone, its uncomfortable for them and they will usually unhook the boot as a survival mechanism, you can then place them elsewhere, or trade them to other reefers for different corals. I hate seeing anyone kill healthy corals when theres alternatives, its like killing your dog for peeing on the shrubs

Maybe one of those lasers people use for aiptasia might work. I think there's affordable ones now. Just use adequate eye protection for the power of the laser.

Oops didnt see you already took care of it. I'm considering the laser to reduce some vermetid snails but afraid of blinding myself or my fish, so I'll probably keep using tweezers.
