Just watched the TV show Tanked and it was disappointing.  It was more of a show about the guys acting like idiots than fish/tanks......  They don't mention anything about building the systems or tanks.....  L.A. Fish Guys is soooooo much better.  He needs to be on Animal Plantet.  As always, Keep Moving Forward.

Yea I thought it was a joke to. They show them filling tanks with a hose and then boom it's got fish in it. They act like you can set it up and put fish in it instantly.

Seriously, what on earth did you guys expect? How many people actually give a crap about what it takes to set up a tank (outside of hobbyists)? It's like pimp my ride. People don't want to watch every weld happen. They want to see a POS car turn into something better.
EDIT: That probably come off as rude, which wasn't my intention. Just wanted to point out that if they made an actual TV show dealing with specifics in the hobby it would likely fail miserably.

The show is intended to entertain rather than teach.

I watched both episodes last night. I thought it was interesting to see the larger tanks that we dont get to see around here. I would like to see what they have for filtration & what they do about cyling, but I am sure those details would bore most audiences.

Like most of these shows, the majority of it is fabricated for entertainment purposes. You know the didn't really fill that tank with tap water and ice from the hotels ice machine and then put fish in it the same day...

It's not educational and it's probably not a great ambassador for the hobby, but I doubt if it will have much of a negative impact on things..

    Overall, I find it entertaining.

Have any of you seen much about this show called "Fishtales"? It seems more of an educational route, which may be appreciated more here.

yet they said they had to get the temp down  because they had fish sitting in bags.   I would be curious what their loss is like and how happy those people are in a couple months.

I was talking to Matt N about this last night and they are putting expert-only fish in these tanks. It obvious the owners could care less about the money they spend on these tanks, they don't really care about the fish, just the WOW factor. BTW I haven't watched the show, too busy...

You know these people aren't taking care of their own tanks. There paying top dollar to have them come back 2 or 3 times a month. The main thing I didn't like was how they make it look so simple to set up a saltwater tank, which I think will lead to noobs killing alot of fish.

Here is a nice little read on the show written by Scott Fellman

Yeah I totally agree with Scott. I thought the show was hilarious if you look past all the things that are glaringly bad practice. But I watched the extras on Mediacom on demand and they have a huge sale room, they stock fish and supplies, so maybe they've got something down that they're not showing. It's pretty bad though when you fill a 1000 gallon tank and only have hot tap water available, then have to dump hotel ice to cool the water so you can put the fish in right away. And that QT system I about choked when I saw them installing the sump outside below grade. That's some pretty ineffectively designed $30,000 QT system.

They must have some pretty high end filtration system to keep the water clean enough without LR in all their systems. That double bullnose shark tank in Ep 1 has to have about 100 times the bioload in it than what should be. Vegas is the place to be for those tanks, people with unlimited funds.

And I'm totally jealous of their factory.
