Two dragonettes in the same tank?

So I'm curious, whats the rule on having two dragonettes in the same tank? For example, I was curious about having eventually an ORA captive bred manderin fish with a scooter blenny/dragonette from work. The scooter is eating rods foods really well and hopefully, so would the manderin.

Are dragonettes aggressive towards each other or is the only reason people didn't have them together before because their tanks couldn't support enough copepods for both?

    Just a thought.

    Thanks!

People typically don't have more than one due to the size of the tank and the copepod population that it can support. If you have a large tank it can support 2, as long as the tank has been established for awhile (1 year without any predators thinning the population in my opinion) so the pod population has had a chance to get established. You also have to be careful due to having other fish that would also graze on the rock for pods, such as a 6 line. If you want a mated pair aquacon typically carries both blue & target mandarin mated pairs.

The established population is really important. When I switched from the 125 to the 150 the 125 had been setup for 3 years and the mandarin was fat. In switching tanks, I evidently lost more pods than I was anticipating b/c the mandarin's stomach was getting really thin. Luckily I was able to get him to switch over to eating mysis as a supplement. I squirt some mysis into a glass jar to feed him & every morning when I come down to feed he is sitting in the jar waiting for breakfast. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

you can have a mandarine and scooter together. if you are wanting to mandarins then it has to be a boy and girl otherwise pry end up battle to the death. it is really hard to get girls though as they dont pull as many.

Sweet. I was just curious. Even if the manderin and scooter both ate completely rods or something, i'm not sure if a 40 breeder is big enough amyway. It was just a thought i had. I wonder what a difference the ORA manderins will make to fish keeping 'rules'.

the ora mandarins will supposedly eat pellets, but they will still need a good population of pods in order to sustain themselves. just like the scooter blennys you have eating rods food, it is really only a supplement. they tend to graze and eat all day never really getting full. IMO kylie a take your size will be very hard pressed with keeping 2.
