U/V Systems pros/cons

    What are you plans with it?
    Simply to control algae and clear the water OR
    help control ick outbreaks?
    Flow rates through the UV and how powerful of a one you need are very different depending on what your goal for adding it is. Installing a UV and pumping to much water through it will give you no benefits. Don't buy a UV that does not publish the radiation output. It's like buying a pump and not knowing the GPH output.

    I run one inline with a magnum canister just to help control any disease outbreaks. This will not prevent it from happening but in the event one does happen it will kill some of the free floaters that pass through the sterilizer.

    Jamie is right on with his post/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif  If you go the UV route learn as much as you can before getting one so it will work for what it is that you want.  Also be aware that you will need to clean it "very regularly" as the bulb will get buildup on it.....
