Anyone know a good underwater camera that a poor person can afford? We are going on a cruise and one of our excursions is snorkeling over a reef. Brian tells me at any time we'll be about 10-15 feet above the corals/fish. I can get a 4 pack of those disposable underwater cameras from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Quick-Waterproof-Single-Camera/dp/B00068H7J8/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1325017942&sr=8-14
but I'm worried that those won't be able to take pictures of moving fish or distant corals. The other option I've found are the $50-60 digital underwater cameras but none of those have true zoom (only a digital zoom) and have pretty crappy reviews.
    Any suggestions anyone? Thanks /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gifKylie

I have found that the cheap disposable underwater cameras work pretty well for the money. My family has gone on several snorkeling strips and often use the underwater disposable cameras. (We never had too much of a problem when it came to shooting from a distance. But, for pics of deep corals or fish, we usually swim down closer to them to get the pics.) The pics can come out a bit blue. Not sure if that is a camera thing or a light and water thing. We have also used the Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera. For the most part, the camera did a pretty good job.
Here are a few pics in case you are interested how they work.

An example of some of that blue shading.

I think they sell under water casings for a lot of different cameras. Not sure how well they do but may be worth a try.

I have an old underwater film camera you could borrow if you like. It was not very expensive when it was new so it's pry not great.

GoPro Hero with the waterproof casing!  I use one mounted outside my vehicle for stormchasing....and it can take a beating (holds up against downpours and hail!).  Just MAKE SURE you get the one that takes actual batteries

+1 on what Tim recommended.  The GoPro cameras are definitely the cheapest and best quality for doing just about anything with.
