I'm about ready here to make the move from my 30 gal to my new 40 gal with a 29 gal sump. I guess my question is if I move the water and rock over is it safe to also move fish and corals? Or do I need to wait to add fish and coral? I will be adding probably about 25 30 gallons new water and about 20 25 gallons of cycled water. Thanks in advance for any advice. Thanks.

I'm sure there are 100 theories. But as long as you are transferring over the live rock and sand I would say you are good to go pretty quick. My upgrade
From 6 g to 20 not using anything but the love rock from the sp

I did the same last fall on the Friday before Fallfest. Took everything from my 125 and transfered it to a 75. Bought 6 new frags at Fallfest and everything was fine. As long as sand and liverock doesnt sit in buckets for hours or days you shouldn't lose much biological filtration.

Thanks guys. I'm using new sand but otherwise I'm using all the live rock and water from this tank. I will have to put everything from the 30 into a tote first to get the 30 out of the way so the 40 can go in its place. I just finished painting the stand yesterday. So I'm planning to bring it up tonight and put the Dr and sump in and make sure my plumbing is good to go. If it's all done correctly with no leaks then Wednesday night I'm planning to take the 30 down and move the 40 in. I may have to finish up Thursday night if I run out of steam. But that's the plan for now. If fish and everything does have to stay in the tote overnight I will toss my heater in along with my filter and a pump. Thanks guys for the input I appreciate it!!
