I have a 125 gallon reef rank.  Well soon it'll be a reef tank.  I have 5 fish and a kenya tree is my first coral to go in the tank.  It doesnt look so hot.  I know it has only been 24 hrs since it was added my tank and all but I still want to get the kits so I can start testing at home and not driving clear over to Pet's Playhouse for a water test.
Anyone got some kits they arent using and would sell me or know of where I can get the kits reasonably priced?
    Thank,
    Thy

I use Salifert for Alk, Cal, Mag, and Nitrate. For pH I use a Hanna meter (awesome). For Ammonia I just use API (rarely test it). For Phosphate I use the Hanna Checker (awesome). For Salinity I use a refractometer (eBay $20) and I calibrate it every time I use it (which is not often, once you know your tank, you rely on this very little)

I get Salifert kits from Dirks, the rest I got online, bigalsonline, marinedepot, ebay, etc.

If you're going to start with softies only, just get a cheapo API Reef Master or Saltwater Master kit, one that has Alk, Nitrate, pH, Calcium and then get the Salifert Mag kit and get all those in line, and get used to testing levels and reading the results, and figure out how fast everything drops so you know when you need to dose. Alk is probably your biggest to nail down, but it shouldn't be dropping that fast as long as your rock has been soaking long enough.

If your kenya tree is like my colt, if you move it or mess with it, it will stay closed up for a few days. I had to peel it off a rock once and it didn't open for a week. Post pics that would help.

oops I tried to make that first pic smaller but I guess the site thought it needed to be full scale.

FWIW, I use API test kits now, they were always the same as my Salifert ones when I cross-checked them.

Long time Salifert user now converted to API just because they are so easy and quick. They also seem to be just as accurate.

Most of the API test kits are fine. But the phosphate kit doesn't test to a low enough range to be relevant for reef aquarium use. If your phosphates are detectable with an API kit, then your PO4 is WAAAAAAAAYYYYY to freaking high.

Also, the API nitrate test kit doesn't have great resolution 5-10ppm is pretty much the same color

I have all salifert test kits for Ca, Alk, Mg, and all sorts of differnt test kits for anything you need. Make me an offer or go to any online vendor. You should have these already if you have a tank going. Come on now!

I think your colt/kenya is probably OK, maybe more light needed. Like I said whenever I pissed mine off by moving it, it would stay closed up for a good couple days. Just leave it alone for a bit and see what happens.

Tree is looking good today but I lost the 3 turbo snails last night... Not sure what the heck is going on... Going to get my water tested at Pet's Playhouse again tomorrow morning so I can get this nipped in the butt.

@Reefified - I'll bug you later! AJ has a few kits he was going to sell me but havent heard anything on those in a while. Let me see what he has and then I'll get the what I am missing from you.

Haven't heard anything from me in a while?  So the text message a couple of days ago with you making arrangements to pick them up on Sunday qualifies as not hearing from me in a while?  /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/blink.gif  Seriously?
