I have found a gem.  my RO/DI has been on the fritz for a year on and off and I finally gave up.  I had been filling up at the Wal-Mart by Jordan Creek Mall for a long time, but the other day I took my Hanna meter with me and to my shock, the TDS was 150-180.  In the past there, it has never gone above 30.  The management there told me a story about the bad service they get from the company that maintains their system, said they have to call them every other day and they don't respond very well.  So I am not going there anymore.
So there is a new Wal-Mart in Grimes, and their system was installed back in January I think.  Every time I have tested the water, after letting the temperature adjust, the meter reads 0 ppm TDS, and it stays there.  Maybe a "1" might pop in now and then.  But it has been consistently low.
So if you don't have your own RO/DI and you don't trust your tap water, get yourself a couple of 5g buckets and lids and fill up at Wal-Mart in Grimes for $0.37 per gallon.

I know that you end up hauling your water anyway, but if I didn't have to do that, I certainly would find out why my RO-DI didn't work correctly and get it going. I think making your own RO/DI would be cheaper, but it is certainly less hassle to just make it and use it.

I know, I just haven't got around to buying a new RODI from airwaterice yet. The one I have is off ebay and I think the membrane is shot or something. Haven't been able to figure it out and the purewaterclub guy doesn't respond. Besides I just use it for top-off right now and very infrequent water changes.

But I figured this info would be good for anyone who doesn't have a nice tidy spot for installing an RO system and hooking up to a sink was not an option, or if they had an emergency and needed 40g of water right now.

I've pulled 80 gallons from the WM in JC before, 40g then another 40g 1 hour later and didn't drain it. Most WMs have 80g tank and 8 hour refill time so they're a good emergency source, just not the JC one anymore, unless they get it fixed.
