    Hello again!

Not too much has changed this week. Like I said last week, we made it official the 10% discount on all live and dry goods except glass for all GIRS members. At this point, we have no way to discriminate from actual GIRS members and forum subscribers to the discount will go to anyone who mentions GIRS. If you feel that is unfair to members, please give any ideas/suggestions you have for an easy way to identify GIRS members. (checking the internet won't work just because the store can get pretty busy at times and checking the forums at a register would take up other peoples time).

As anyone who has come to visit recently has noticed, we are attempting to "overhaul" the saltwater section. We are in the process of redoing a lot of our sumps/equipment as well as changing from sand beds to crushed coral in all of our sales tanks. The sand from those tanks are being moved down to the floor level tanks and once properly cleaned will be for sale as live sand to anyone who wants it.

Due to focusing on rearranging the department, we are a little low on exotic fish. We have the usuals- different clowns, blennies, gobies, cardinals, etc. Normally we try to have two or three really special fish and as a little teaser, we did get a very gorgeous new addition to our temporary little fish community but until we know she is eating well and staying healthy, I won't tell!! (p.s. I'm not sure if its male or female, I just like calling her a her). Heehee /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif Over the next few weeks, as our systems settle from the transitions we'll be sure to add some more fancy fish so if you have any suggestions, please let us know!

Just a last reminder that all glass is 40-48% off through September. Unfortunately, that apparently doesn't apply to very unique sizes but any common size is on sale.

Thanks for reading this weeks update. As always, if you ever have any questions or suggestions for us, feel free to call or visit the store, pm this account, or pm kylie d.

    Have a great week everyone!

    Kylie

You could put a "secret password" in the club members only section.

Yeah, I was thinking the card model too...makes sense. Would take a little bit to think of the logistics, but we could probably figure something out.

We used to get cards when we became GIRS members, that would probably work

Being there is only one LFS actually participating in the "discount for GIRS members program" a simple password posted in the members only sections seems like it would be a lot easier, that is of course one of us is willing to be "the card guy". NOT IT!

    Been there, done that.

I do have a card laminator so that is something I could do if we go that direction.

Troy, I don't think you understand what you just volunteered for! That's laminating up to 200 cards!

Hey, if you laminate troy, I have a fancy cutter. We could get together every so often and make new cards for new members. The initial round would suck but after that it shouldnt be too bad. The biggest issue would be paying for ink and postage. I like this idea so ill pass it along to Ron and Adam. See what they think

Just got word back from Adam (dept manager) and he says the card idea would work. So I'm definitely offering to be on the card team since it'll be fun and I started the problem /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif

The only drawback to the password idea is it seems a bit easy for someone to tell non members the password. I'd hate to see a store try and support a club and end up having a 10% off for almost everyone who comes in deal.

Yeah, thats why I like the card idea. Actual proof if you're a member

Since this is the only LFS so far giving a discount why dont you just pick up your card there? They could be alphabetized to make it easier.[IMG]

I don't think any store should be obligated to do anything.  They can choose to give a discount, host, or something that they decide would benefit the club and their store. It should be the clubs resposibility to figure out how members should be identified. I think membership cards or something like them are one of the basic things most clubs offer members... if we would have an annual new year meeting a bulk of them could be handed out at that time, after that they can be sent to trustees and either handed out at local meetings or mailed.

I have to agree. Just because we have so many non fish people working at the store that it would cause confusion and we dont have a good place to store them.

I dont think they need to be laminated. Just on a decent paper. They should be annual cards since that
is how we pay. Dont want a one time supporter getting lifetime deals.

If creating member cards is something we can help out with let me know. I'm sure we can print out some business card style discount cards. If one could get a name list, especially as an excel document, building a template and plugging in names shouldn't be too hard. I'm not an excel wizard at all, but I know some. hehe

Either way if we can help with that great, otherwise since we're the only ones offering the discount at this point, I'd be happy to be a pick up place for these Member cards. Again, we are more than happy to be active members, and anything we can do to help just let me know. If it's something I can help with, I'd be glad to!

This is a good group, I would like to know we can be a small part in making it better for everyone!

Sure cards would be ideal, I made them a few years ago and that was the easy part. Getting them to the entire member base on the other hand was a complete PITA. Once I did get most of them handed out people started loosing them, then there were the people that never got them because they never attended a meeting got pissed because they wanted one.....anyway it was a lot more work than it should have been and at that time there wasn't even a need for them other than the fact you had a cool card.

Another option, being most members pay with paypal, have them just print off your paypal receipt or even a pagegrab from these forums with their profile info showing they are members.

All I'm saying is making and distributing cards is a lot of work and until we have more than one store participating in a discount program for members the amount of time and effort put into it just doesn't seem worth it.

I think the spreadsheet with username, real name, and membership expiration would work great. We could even make a sticky or a dropdown tab somewhere that automatically gets updated when we get new members. This way, all they will have to do is bring an ID to authenticate it...
