figured id start another thread as the last seems fairly old. I just bought my first pistol. Its a Hi-Point C9 9mm. Brand new for $149.99. Hopefully gonna take it out this weekend. Its kinda ugly but I really like it. Now for the hard part..... finding ammo. Gander Mountain had NOTHING! so, lets see what ya got!!

Try Fleet and Farm. They usually have ammo for average prices. Are you using that for concealed carry, or home defense?

This seems like a good CC weapon, but not as an open carry weapon. If you are going to let people you are carrying, get a bigger gun. A Sig Sauer P226 MK25 is great. It holds 15 9mm rounds, plus it is intimidating as heck. It is what the SEALs use, and I trust it with my life.

if i had an extra 700-1000 to spend id have a .45 1911 as my open carry. unfortunatley for now my c9 will have to suffice.

Hmmm, who do I shoot first. I know, the guy who I see with a gun on his waist. Or better yet I get the jump on you and take your gun before you even know what hit you and use it against you. You become a target not a deterent. Why do you want to advertise you are carrying? The perception you leave when you openly carry is detrimental to all of us. When I see a guy openly carrying I think there is something wrong with that guy. I do carry so I know what I am talking about, oh by the way I was a deputy for 9 years as well. I know you are excited about carrying as we all were at some point but I would beg you to reconsider your want to open carry, you give the gun haters more ammo when they see you in public.

Take it from my experience. Keep it concealed, otherwise some idiot that catches a glimpse of gun while your riding your motorcycle home to go to work will call the cops on you. Next thing you know, there are 3 cop cars and 4 officers are outside your door. You answer your door in your work uniform and they start laughing because they immediately see you obviously did nothing wrong and the idiot that followed me from North Liberty to my house in Iowa City is the real problem. Long story short is, unless you want unneeded attention brought to yourself, keep it hidden and legal. You'd only make it worse for the rest of us carrying openly for day to day activities.

***Also, advertising what guns you may have in an open public forum where you might also be posting your home address may not be the smartest idea. Just my 2cents...

Agree on the open carry points.
Its really more of a regional thing than anything. People aren't used to seeing open carry around this area. Its likely to end up as more of a hassle than it would be worth.
Now if we lived in Utah, or Montana open carry is pretty normal so people don't freak out about it quite so much.
Still my opinion is i feel it better if no one knows i'm carrying.

I don't carry nor use guns for home defense, I just collect and shoot for fun. I could care less who knows my info, besides, the watch on my wrist is worth more than all my guns combined, haha.

Looks like a far starter hand gun..

Wearing it around Iowa openly would cause more of a scare then anything. Don't advertize it,but keep it to yourself that is what I would do. Now if I lived in Colorado I would wear it openly as a lot do there. What did your instructor say about open carry in Iowa? He should have let you know what he thought!

if u have a permit to buy in the state of iowa u can open carry but it has to be 100% visible. if u have a cwp as i do u can open carry and have your shirt over it. having my cwp allows me to hide the weapon or open carry. i have a conceal holster on order but i will open carry during my camping trips. my main reason for wanting my firearm.

Iowa has an open carry law without any permits. However you must have the magazine out of the weapon. It can be in your pocket. With a concealed carry permit you are allowed to open carry with a round chambered and magazine with the weapon.

I carry a Walther PPQ 40, all day every day for my CC
    My home defense is a Maverick 88 security 12g 8shot (mossberg500 clone)
and for giggles a .38 special derringer

I am a gun enthusiast, but I have to agree with eryk and xroads when they say they prefer not to broadcast what they own and whether or not they are cc'ing.

The people who feel the need to let everyone one know they are packin' make me question their motivations.

I dont think its necessary to tell everyone i meet. However in a friendly discussion about firearms and preferences i will talk about my weapon and why i chose it. I will not for any reason show them. It is concealed and will stay that way.
