What is the best skimmer

    I am tired of my coralife super skimmer 220 pumping my tank dry. What is the problem with the POS? It will work fine for days then the next thing you know it has pumped 10 gal of water out of the tank leaving my return pumps dry. Then the top off pump starts pumping freshwater in to the tank until it runs dry.
    I need a better, more dependable skimmer. What is out there that is better?

    i had that problem with mine too did some reading on them and i guess there real touchy. some people have had good luck and alot havent.   i would say for the money you cant go wrong with a octopus.

    I have an octopus that has been pretty great too.
    Your question is alot like asking what is the best vehicle? There are tons of different types, sizes and price ranges. It may help you get suggestions by describing your set up and what you want to spend. Also I assume its in sump as opposed to hang on back.

    How much better are the sump style octopus skimmers vs the hob? I have a hob aqua c remora with a mag 7. Its on a 125 reef with a sailfin, mimic, sailfin blenny, firefish and three tiny black and white percs. Would the upgrade to a hob or sump style octopus of the same size classification be noticable? I upgraded to this skimmer from a dual bak pak.

    I have a HOB reef octopus and it seems to be working well. Still fine tuning it, but even in my new tank I am getting some darker skimmate from it. Easy to setup and get running even with the lack of instructions. Don't really know a whole lot about them, and this is the only skimmer I have run. But it was easy enough for a newb to get setup and running.

    octopus or euroreef. i have loved my euroreef skimmers.

    I got a 180 with a 55 gal sump with the skinner hanging on the side of the sump. I would prefer to have the pump setting in the sump and pump water out of sump over top to the skimmer. Would also like the skimmer to sit on the floor next to the sump. The only thing is that I have the sump sectioned off into 4 chambers so the in sump skimmer foot print size could cause a problem with room. That's why I would like the out of sump or a hang on.
