Couldn't really get a clear picture, but its darker brown and feathery, and appears to be coming out of tubes attached to my live rock.
Just one small nickel or quarter sized area right now, but if its a pest I would like to take care of it before it gets out of control.

It looks like some kind of Gracilaria algae or a sponge of some kind. Try zooming out to take a pic with a little better focus, it might help with the ID.

From your description, they appear to be tiny colony type feather dusters. Completely harmless assuming that's what they are. They will pop up where there is a nice current so they can feed from the water column easily (filter feeders). Try backing up a tad to take the picture so its focused on them and not the background......you can always zoom in in some photoshop type software later........

Not really a camera expert so getting the shots clear usually doesn't happen LOL. I will try turning off the power heads so the stop waving around and see if that helps at all.
    Lets try this one.

Agree with Fawn - some type of feather duster and a nice filter feeder based on the last pic.

it looks similar to some of my other feather dusters, its just a darker brown and seemed that a good group showed up out of nowhere. I'll let them be.
