im getting around to setting the tank up and wanted to know what everyone was using for water. i live outside of waukee and the water is very hard here. we have a water softener and RO unit. i have no clue what the TDS readout is. are there alot of people using RO/DI? for thoseĀ using just RO, are you having any problems??? eventually i'd like to add the DI unit.

You can get a hand held TDS meter for about $20. Very handy to monitor your RO performance.

I used just water softener and RO for a while and I could grow SPS, but after fighting algae for a while I got a DI add on kit from air water and ice. I put a T and a check valve between the ro and di to fill my drinking bottles. It was relatively cheap and easy to do, just make sure your have to correct tubing sizes matched up the first time. I think it may have helped my algae problem, and getting a TDS of reading of 0 afterwards made me feel like I had resolved one source of problems.
