He said some was in water and some was not. We don't know how much die off there was, and we have no idea if its 10lbs of rock, or 200 lbs of rock. Yes it will have some die off, and yes there will most likely be a cycle. If he throws 200lbs of live rock in his system and it goes into a big nasty cycle he's probably going to lose most of his livestock. We definitely don't want that.
I think the best thing to do is take it slow. Either by cycling the rock in a separate system, or add a few pieces at a time so you don't overwhelm the biological system.

For the record, it's about 75-100lbs of rock and maybe 20-25 of that was soaking. At this point, I'll probably add a couple smaller pieces and keep my fingers crossed. After I get the rick in the tank. :-0

A few small pieces in that large of a system will be just fine. Just watch the water parameters and do water changes as needed.

I seen what I missed now. I knew he had less then 100lbs from talking to him. I was not aware( or missed that because of my ADD) lol that any of it completely dried out. I am cought up now. I think with such a big tank adding it slowly it should be good, but cylcing it in a tub with a heater and clean up crew along with some water movement would even be better.

    Wish I had a 180..lol

Well, I lost one chromis (found him on the powerhead) but that was right after I checked the parameters. Don't think it was water quality related. At least I hope not.

I doubt it was water quality issue caused by the small amount of rock you added. I'd just watch everything for a few days to make sure nothing else happens. At least it was just one of your chromis and not one of your nicer fish.

Agreed. I'm really doing my best to keep that powder brown healthy. He's eating like a pig, though, so I'll take that as a positive sign.
