I am thinking of drilling holes and inserting acrylic rods to eleveate my base rocks off the bottom of my tank. Does anyone know where I can buy these rods? And what kind of glue to use to secure them in the hole I drill? Thanks.

I bought some on eBay. That was cheaper than most of the other places that I found. Since then, I have had a positive transaction with US Plastics so I would check with them too. B-Rad orders from McMaster-Carr.

As far as securing them, Robyn was telling me about her experience using acrylic rods in rock and she just did friction fit and it worked great for her. If friction fit was not tight enough, I would cut a few small notches in the rod (to give the glue something to grab) and use coral gel glue...or even silicone.

Will the rods eventually cover with coraline growth? This has given me an idea even for upper rock formations. I just wouldn't want clear columns in my rock formation. What about using epoxy in the holes, although the silicone would work just as good.

I'm not sure where you are located Potroast, but Midland Plastics in Davenport should have what you are looking for. I bought some square dowels, and adhesive, from them earlier this year to repair our sump that was leaking through the seams...and they were both very knowledgeable and friendly.

PotRoast have you considered pvc? It is way cheaper and readily available. Just a thought!
