I would like to purchase some tangs,  purple, powder brown, saifin, kole eye and potential a yellow.  My question is what are your experiences with the online retailers.  Where would you reccomend purchasing from.  Also, can you reccomend an order for introduction?

sblomgren, Not trying to be the tang police here but I still have to ask, How big is your aquarium? I would suggest all of them at once if your system is able to handle them. If not then the Kole tang first then Powder Brown, The others by size if possible.

I have always had great luck with Live Aquaria. Others are hit or miss.

I echo Johns sentiment on that many tangs thought, be wary.

You dont have to apologize for policing. That is good. The aquarium is a 180 gallon 72 inch by 2 by 2. Primarily these will be the only large fish in the tank. What i mean by that is I have some green chromis, and a firefish, and a piccasso clown. Otherwise no large fish.

In my experience the Kole Tang is the least aggressive, The power brown can be aggressive but they don't handle stress well. The yellow, purple and sailfin are all somewhat aggressive but I've never had a problem with them doing much more than chasing a new member around for a day or two. I think the biggest issue with tangs is introducing a second fish similar in color/shape.

I gues everyones experience is different. There are a couple of threads on RC that say the Kole tank is the most aggessive. I looked up Saltwaterfish.com the other night and they have pretty good prices right now. I just dont think they are as popular a retailer.

Sean, go down to Seascapes and support the store that supports us. Then you can see the fish first as well. Tim will order whatever you want as well.

I've never heard of a Kole Tang being aggressive let alone the most aggressive, Mine have always been peaceful and rather shy.

I got my powder blue frp, the reefs2go order. It was thin, but has fattened up very nicely. Showed some signs of iche but those are gone by now too.

Careful with the purple and the yellow together. Chances are the purple will become a scrapper, from what I read. I have read of purples beating up various other fishes in the tank as well!

Saltwater fish also has free shipping right now on orders over $100. All that said, Iowa Sea Scapes had some pretty good prices on some of the tangs you are looking at AND you get 10% off if you buy on a weekday.

I stopped at Sea of Marvels in North Liberty recently and remember seeing several healthy tangs including a clown and sohal. It might be worth a call.

The fish shack is in Manchester. I have had good luck with Bill and hes good for ordering in what you want and QTing it for you. My powder brown is vary territorial. He will chase my lawnmower blenny and when I tried to add another tang... it didn't go over well! I would make him one of the last fish you add.

Make the yellow, purple and sailfin your last ones of any fish added. Thy are nornally the most aggressive
And have similar body styles so add them at the sane time.

I just bought a Kole tang from Iowa Pet(Seascapes) a few weeks ago and he is doing wonderful. He likes to chase the other fish in my tank occasionaly but inflicts no damage, just having fun I think. Iowa Pet had a lot of Yellow Tangs too but I didn't see anything else

My experience with tangs (in my 165 gallon) is as follows:

small blue hippo, and a small yellow hawiian, added first and on the same day (now medium in size)

large blue hippo, added 2 weeks later (a rescue fish and now 6-8 inches)

medium purple tang added 2 weeks after this (now large in size)
this over the last 2.5 years (tank has been up for 3 years)
all 4 tangs added with in 45 days of each other

All my tangs do very well together- they even "school", however, the large blue hippo runs the show, he is the boss, even over a large blue velvet damsel, and a large angel- no one messes with pappa smurf, and boy do they love to eat.
A word of caution, tangs are very active fish, they need lots of things to keep them busy- ie: good food (like kelp and sea weed), and lots of hiding places with in the live rock- places to explore- these are very smart fish and grow very fast, and in time, they will learn just whom you are. make sure all your corals are sucurely attached as well- tangs will try and fit any and every where.
Also, once dominance is established, be cautious because certain tangs (like hippos) can slice you open if you make them angry. They def. have great personalities, powder blue tangs can be prone to ick (allmost all wild caught ones have it), so make sure you quarintine ANY tang before you place it in your tank. Also make sure the quarintine tank uses the same water that is in your main tank. Finally, water quality must be kept at very good quality- otherwise- you will get ick. As a prevention I add garlic guard to their food.
    hope this helps.
