I've never QTd my livestock. Tonight my two clowns shipped out and I'm wondering if you guys QT? I have a 10 gallon set up with an ac70, PVC , heater and power head ready if I decide to by morning. I've had some filter floss in my sump for a couple weeks just in case.
Is it less of an issue since they are my first fish! I don't plan any other additions until February if these are healthy. Thoughts?

I would believe, in my humble opinion, that if they are your first fish in the tank that will be okay. Now if you have coral in tank you wont be able to dose any medications. So that may change your mind. AND if you had a fully established tank full of fish and coral then it would be debatable as risk vs $$$ for replacing livestock.

Put them in QT so that you can observe them and treat if necessary. Also just because you can't see anything wrong with them does not mean that they are not carrying any parasites or diseases. If you put them in your display and they do end up with something you will not be able to treat them with any proven meds if you have live rock or any inverts/coral in the tank. And it can be a Bi!ich to get them out to treat them without tearing the tank apart. just my advice.

QT indeed! f there is ever a good way to start, and you have it set up, and don't want to risk corals... then why not? /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

I always QT - although I just recently got a mandarin. And because it feeds off of copopods, I wouldn't be able to feed him in the QT and thus I took the chance and put him directly in the DT.

I recently purchased a flame angel. He didn't make it in the QT. He was very picky and would only eat algae off rocks. I had some small rocks to put in the QT. But after that was gone, he went downhill. Tried everything w/o success. So, with that particular fish, next time, I might also take my chances and put him directly in the DT. But whenever possible, I use the QT first.
