Do all you bare bottom guys just put your rocks right on the glass bottom or do you have starboard or something down?

My rock is right on glass. But if I was setting up a new tank I would silicone some starboard or some hdpe down.

I like the fish and inverts that need sand such as pistol shrimp, gobbies extra. I have a 1-2 inch sand bed. Plan on going to 4-5 inch next time around.

My 4 foot 150 is sandless painted black on the bottom and back full of live rock. I will not put sand in my tanks just my preference.

i like the creatures that like to have sand so i put up with the sand and i have a lot of flow with no sand storms unless i stir it up to clean.

I have the rocks sitting on the glass...but it has made me nervous a few times when rocks have tumbled. You definitely want a strong rock structure. Probably best to use pvc, acrylic rods, or epoxy to hold it together.

I always used 1/2 inch cutting board material on the bottom of mine. I used silicone for tanks and glued it to the bottom and then took pvc glue and glued course sand to the pvc for the appearance. Nicest looking tank bottom I had ever

I had a 90 gal BB with lots of fish and coral had many of the same issues people have mentioned every tank I've had with sand has done amazing. My 120 reef I'm currently working on has 2 inches of sand and everything has been great so I'm sticking with sand if you take care of it I think it's the way to go
