Why hobbyists from other state join GIRS???

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by xtremeclownfish, Jul 22, 2015.

  1. Hello ALL

I've been ask several times, why I do not pertain to a local forum in the state I reside? Is GIRS only for Iowa resident? That is why I wanted to open a thread to get your input!

Recently, I've moved to Spring Hill, FL and it's not unusual for a hobbyists like me joining GIRS or other forums not pertaining to the state we reside! Actually there are many forums where there current members are not from where the forum reside! Why?? Because of the community size, or daily activity!

I've google search related forums in the saltwater, reef, fish, and corals and there are many forums. Many of these forums have been establish for many years, and notice the member count is low, and I saw posts in most recent threads a few months ago or last year 2014! It's obvious these forums are dead, no activity and it's member are leaving and joining other forums. WHY?? It's possible the administrator of the site is only one person who have no creativity, no passion, or lost interest and time in the hobby. Maybe, afraid of changes, taking risk and feel does not want anyone's opinion.

So many hobbyist will join where there is a large community base, a place where there's a vast of information (knowledge base) to learn, and to share experience with no prejudice.

    Where do you live?

That's awesome when people join because they see the community we have. We welcome anyone who wants to take an active part in the club and the discussions on this board.
That aside, when we see outside residents join and their posts are all, or a large majority, in the BST section we tend to wave a red flag. This club was not established and this site is not kept for the purpose of selling and advertising goods. There are plenty of other avenues for that. We don't need members from out of state using the site strictly for their profit and giving nothing back to our community.

Usually when someone from out of state joins, it is usually to try and sell stuff. Unless they are on the border like Illinois or Nebraska

Not sure I understand your question o_O so you've been asked, or you have been asking?

Absolutely not. There is no club policy nor anything in the forum software that prohibits anyone from anywhere in the world joining (with the exception of anti-spam measures).
