I have been considering buying a couple myself. At first, I thought my pepps did the trick, but it doesn't seem to be so. I'd split shipping from salty underground with anyone that is interested. Shipping is right around $25 for any number of these guys (goes up $1 per nudi it seems).

If you want, I can start a new thread too. Don't mean to hijack this one. This has just been something I was thinking about for a while and your post sort of motivated me /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

There is, however every time I ask they are out. I was basically holding out to buy from the club, but it was literally the beginning of summer that I first thought about getting some. I evern "supposedly" had my name on a list from another member who had a new batch and sold the entire batch to someone. Unless someone has some RIGHT NOW I'd rather not wait another 8 months /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif
I only really need 2-3, so I am not looking for huge numbers personally, which is why I held out as long as I did; assumed that would be an easy "order" to fill.

Remember they are very hard too keep in an Aquarium I was told, because of all the current. They get sucked up and filtered out because they are very small.

Not disagreeing with you, but I have never heard anything like this. The only "con" that I have ever heard is that when your aiptasia is gone, so is the nudi's food source, as they eat nothing but. Where did you get your info?

I read it a few times online when researching them to take care of aiptasia. I went with Pepperment shrimp and put 5 of them in my 29. They had them eaten up in about a month. There is only a few left and it has stayed that way. If you put a lot then they are forced to eat something other then scraps from regular feedings. I then took them out and sold them off.
Here is just one. I think once they get to rock they maybe ok, but they are very small and could still get sucked up or blown right off rocks. They are just not ment for A reef for the long hall. This is based on research on them and my opinion only, but its what I form while researching into getting them. And you are right once Aiptasia are gone so are they if not dead already. Also they can get eaten by shrimp other then cleaners. Some fish and others will eat them.
finally I talked with my LFS about them and they hinted at the same problems. So I decided on Pepperments.

I have had berghias for the last 18 months. They will die after their food source is gone. They do not get blown off the rocks if you take the time to introduce them to your tank correctly. That means shutting the pumps and powerheads off and using a turkey baster to get them to the rock. Wrasses are the only fish that I know of that will eat them. They do work but do not buy them for just a few in the tank, as they will die before they find them. The benefit of berghia over peppermint shrimp is they get the entire aptasia whereas peppermint shrimp do not get the entire foot. Peppermints are also hit or miss as to eating aptasia.

Berghias are very durable if acclimated and introduced to the system correctly.

Berghias are great, nothing like them to fight aptasia. You do have to introduce them correctly, especially if you have wrasses.

We are trying to get enough aptasia growing at the store to start raising them. If anyone has extra aptasia, bring it in. We will even swap clean live rock for aptasia rock.

I have maybe a dozen or so aiptasia that my peppermints no longer seem to care about. What would be the recommended number for those? I was essentially planning on just getting enough of these guys to keep the aiptasia at bay. I don't mind seeing an aiptasia or two, I just don;t want the tank to eventually get overrun. I also have no issue with just passing on the nudis once they have done their job assuming they have eradicated the aiptasia in full. I am not sure if this is realistic? I have a BC29 so I don't think finding them would be too terrible? But I don't know.

Tasha, were you selling your nudis currently? I know you had in the past but I never seem to get at you at the appropriate time.

So far I have one person interested in an order from salty underground Do we have any others?

If they are concentrated to one area of the tank I would remove the rock or try a couple of more peppermint shrimp.
I am not selling any berghias currently.  Haven't sold any for just about a year.  We are moving this week so am not willing to part with any as I'm not sure if what I have hiding in the rocks are going to survive.  I at least have my breeders that I can start another colony from.
If you do order some you want at 3, they need to find each other to be able to reproduce.  The way they work is you start with a few and they reproduce to the point that there are more berghia than aiptasia.  You can pass them along but they are difficult to find in a tank full of rock.

Unfortunately they are not concentrated. To compound the issue, I have sps that have encrusted onto every rock I have (I only have 4-5 good sized rocks since the tank is so small). I have read that they are self limiting, but also that they can nuke the tank when they die. How real of a problem is that?

I have never had an issue with them nuking a tank and I know I have went through a partial die off and the are now coming back in the large tank. I didn't clean out our overflow so I hope know there was still aptasia in the tank.
