I wasn't able to go to Frag Fest and just saw a post of some frag packs for sale in Boone, but I was thinking I'd check and see is there anyone in the Cedar Rapids area interested in selling some coral? Looking at paying $5-$20 dollars a peice, maybe 3-4 peices or so. I'm capping myself at 40 or 50 bucks.:)

Some I'm interested in are acans, frogspawn, candy cane coral, pulsing xenia, sea fans, mushrooms

I have a 29 gallon tank. Don't know a lot about corals so if there are good corals for an "amatuer" reefer which is definitely what I'd call myself I'd be open to suggestions.

Sounds great!! I'll actually be in town this weekend without much of anything going on so if you're going to be in the area this weekend it'd be perfect:) If that doesn't work we can discuss another weekend that would work for you.

I'd like the frogspawn for 20.00, 1 green monti digi frag for 10.00 and 1 zombie eyes frag for 10.00.

I can bring those to you on sunday if you can meet me in north liberty. Say around 1:30 at the gas station just off the interstate. If this works let me know.
    Thanks Bill

    Hey swm0522,
Consider staying with the soft corals (like the zoas, mushrooms, leathers) and LPS corals (like frogspawn/torch/hammer, sun coral, brain corals, etc) before you start into the SPS (like the monti digi). SPS will probably not do very well under PC lights. Not trying to talk you out of spending money with Bill, he has some great frags; just maybe swap out the monti with another zoa or something.

I have some corals that I am willing to sell at a very cheap price....I have many different kinds of zoas, leathers, mushrooms, etc...easy corals and great for starting! I do live in Cedar Rapids on the SW side of town. If interested just let me know. Usually home during the day or most weekends.

Aj is right. I didn't know you had pc lights. The monti digi will most likely do poorly under pc lighting. But if you want to try it it's up to you.

I'm sorry but I think I'm gonna have to pass on buying coral right now. Haven't been real happy with how my tank looks so was thinking getting a few new corals in there would make me feel better about it. Bad news is something crazy is going on and water is murky, rocks are a fuzzy brown, new critters I got aren't doing well maybe because my salinity is way low??? I checked it was really low. I did a water change a couple nights ago and am planning another tomorrow morning to increase salinity as salinity is still way low.

Long story short...... I'm afraid to put anything new in with the way it's looking right now but thanks to both fishbrain and Troy for the offers and to you AJ for the advice!!

doing a water change isnt going to increase your salinity..... You need to make sure the salinity is correct in the tank. If your salinity in your tank is lets say 1.010 and you do a water change with water that is 1.020 your salinity is still going to be LOW.

I've run into this situation and I just made up some super-saturated saltwater and poured it in by the pump. Waited a while, checked the salinity, then added more. This worked well for me.

It was at 1.01 (have no idea how it had gotten so low) and a couple nights ago I'd done the water change using 1.02. I should have known when I put that water in it wouldn't increase the salinity. Sometimes I think I need to check my sanity, is there a tool for that??....lol

This morning I did one with the salinity meter at 1.03 and when I checked my tank salinity it was right on. I'll check again a little later to make sure it still measures right on once my water has all settled in. I hope this works to clear things up a bit!!! Thanks:)
