What's your objective for the cover/lid? Typically reef keepers leave the top of the tank open for good light transfer into the tank, however, canopies frequently house the lights to keep the bright lights contained to the aquarium. Also, some people that have jumping fish put some kind of jump guard on their tank to keep fish from jumping out. These can be made from parts that you buy at your local hardware & garden supply store for probably around $10 - $15. Now, if you're doing a fish only tank, then maybe you want the stock, glass lids. You can order them from just about any local fish store. If you want details on how to make a jump guard, let me know.

You can get the screen frame, corners, and spline from your local hardware store. You can get the netting (black bird netting) from your local garden store. Here's a video that shows you how.

We use egg crate @ the store for our jumpers.

I've heard of people using egg crate too, but it's supposed to block more light than the net does. I can't compare as I've never used egg crate. Probably not a big deal for the store tanks as the fish/corals are probably not in there that long, and the amount of light that you guys have over those tanks is pretty significant. I would imagine it's a bigger deal for home display tank. Using egg crate is certainly less expensive and easier; it does have those two benefits.

I used the egg crate for awhile (white eggcrate - as that what is easiest to find).  But a few years ago while talking with Sanjay - he discouraged it, due to the directional change it makes on the light and the light loss that occurs - and it being white, not black egg crate.  He recommended the screen approach described but the other responses.  I've used that and it works good.  IMO - not any more difficult to make than cutting the egg crate for the size you need.  You can get the aluminum frame, corners and spine for a little more than $10 at Lowe's.  I ended up getting black pond netting from Earl May for about $15 - (7' x 10') piece - probably a lifetime supply for me!!!  I'm in WDM.  If you decide to go this route - I'd be happy to give you the small amt of netting you need for the 75 gal tank.  This netting is 3/8" sq.

The netting forms 3/8" squares - halfway between 1/4" and 1/2".

I'm retired, so I have a pretty flexible schedule.   Sometime today would probably work.   Let me know what works with your work schedule.  I've got a couple errands to do today, but haven't decided when to do them.  Sent me a PM.
